Head's update regarding admissions

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am aware that some parents have heard about a new admissions process that Surrey are introducing.

The plan for informing parents about this process more fully will be in the next few weeks. In the meantime, as I know some of you may be concerned, I have had a conversation with the Lead Officer.

She has said that the new process will mean that parents are asked to complete an application form in years 1, 5 and 10 in preparation for Key Stage transfer. However parents have a legal right for their child to remain at a school if this is their choice until the end of the age range that the school supports. Therefore, although you will be asked to complete the application, if you want your child to remain at Freemantles you can put in a single preference for Freemantles and, as long as we also feel it appropriate (we will talk to you if we don’t), there will be no issues.

The new process is aimed at trying to ensure that parents are given more choice and will remove all forums / panels that Surrey has previously had in place.

More details will follow from Surrey.
